Meanwhile only a few blocks over, another partygoer awoke to the consequences of too much free champagne. Monique’s head was spinning, as the harshness of the sunlit room blurred her vision. She blinked a couple of times, before the pain of a pounding headache caused her to raise her hands from beneath the covers to massage her temples in an attempt to lessen the pain. She didn’t even seem to be aware of the unfamiliar surroundings because she was solely focused on the pain in her head and the nausea in her belly. It wasn’t until she rolled over to find Velle’s smiling face staring back at her, that she almost went into a panic attack.
“What are you doing here?!” She exclaimed surprised to find her seemingly naked boss lying in her bed. She raised the covers to find her own completely naked body under the covers, which was enough to make her want to throw up. She was naked and he was naked so that could only mean one thing. She had apparently gotten busy with the boss. The thought of being a certified whore immediately raced through her head. She had just done the one thing she had been so careful not to do for the past six months.
“I live here.” Velle replied, determined that after the previous night he was going to get the satisfaction of at least mind fucking Monique. He touched her on her nose before saying, “and now so do you…Mrs. Williams.”
“Wh…what! What! What do you mean, Mrs. Williams? What’s going on?” Monique ran through the questions as she quickly sat up in the bed making sure to cover her girly parts. She had sat up too quickly, evident by the sharp pain in her temples, which she again tried to massage away, which caused her to let go of the comforter exposing her naked breast. She was stuck between keeping her assests covered and easing away the pain of an open bar. The room was too bright and her mind was too cloudy causing her not to be able to form a complete thought or sentence. She stammered over her words saying, “wh…wh…why…what…who…how.”
“Yeah, we got married last night at the Justice of the Peace.” Velle said as he raised her right hand to her face so that she could see the diamond wedding set on her left hand. He then wiggled the fingers on his left hand to show her his matching wedding band.
“What?” her lips trembled as the question left her mouth. She couldn’t remember anything that had happened after she had started drinking. Married! How could she have gotten married? She hadn't intended on ever being married and now here she was married to the man who signed her checks every payday, or so she thought.
Dismay washed across her face as Velle continued to enlighten her with the events of the night before, saying, “You asked me to marry you. I said yes. I called my jeweler who opened up the store for me so that we could get our rings, and then we went to the Magistrate where we got married and then we came home and made love all night long. It was great!” He then lay his head on her chest and wrapped his arms around her waist before continuing, “Everyone one there…well sorta. Nikki was there, of course. Justice, Greg, your friend Lauren and Robin gave you away.”
“What! Robin was there!”
“Yeah, she was one of our witnesses. It was amazing. Sterling and Ross were there too.”
“What? Ross and Sterling were there and they didn’t try to stop it. This doesn’t make sense. We can’t be married. We aren’t even dating. You’re my boss for God’s sake.”
“Well, now I’m your husband.” Velle said smiling as he sat up almost unable to keep his lie going but loving her reaction too much to let it go he continued, “I didn’t even know you had any feelings for me but when you got up on stage on professed your love for me for everyone at my party,” he paused for a second pretending to be emotionally moved by the fake memory before continuing, “well that just touched me deep right there.”
“What…wa…wait, did you just say we had sex?” She asked finally processing his earlier comment. The magnitude of having had sex with him far outweighed the prospect of being married to him. She hadn’t been with a man in more than five years and now here was her boss telling her that he had spent the night inside of her. She was sure her body didn’t mind but her morality was deeply disturbed by this turn of events.
Before he could answer her last question, the phone rang. He reached over to grab the cordless phone off of the nightstand. Monique lifted the covers to check to see if he were, in fact, naked and to her extreme delight he had on his boxer shorts, which gave her some sense of relief. She listened as he carried on a conversation with someone on the other end of the phone. He started, “Yello. Yeah, this is me. Whatchu want calling me this time of the morning? Yeah, she right here. She been here all night. She was here when I got home last night. Drunk as hell!” Velle carried on his conversation with the caller. He laughed after his last comment, which made Monique somewhat upset. Who was he talking to and was he talking about her?
“Who is that?” she asked trying to keep her voice low enough that the person on the other end wouldn’t hear her.
Velle seemed to ignore her as he continued to talk to the caller saying, “Yeah, I told her we got married last night. She don’t believe me. What? No! You two are so naïve. What! You lying! You lying! Well, she just waking up so it may be like an hour or so before we get there. Alright…okay…girl, I said we’ll be there in an hour. Get off my phone with your dirty mind. Bye.” He finished his conversation then turned his attention back to Monique, “Alright, that was Robin. She wants us to meet her at the hospital.”
“For what! Who’s hurt!” Monique panicked, as the first thought to cross her mind was that her daughter had gotten hurt, while she was out playing doctor with Velle.
“Nobody’s hurt but apparently Tia had the baby last night.”
I want to give a big CONGRATULATIONS to MZ KEEPITREAL for getting her book AFTERSHOCK published! I also want to say, I respect her for not giving away her ending especially when the book is going in to publication. What would be the purpose of buying it if you could just come here and read it for free? A girl's gotta make that money, so I'm certainly not made at her.
That being said, I will be finishing this one up online, just know in advance that if it does get published then ending in the book will be totally different from how I end it here. There is a way to critique without criticizing, so let's be supportive.
