Addicted (pt. 10)

*Again, it's another late night so no proofing was done. If that's one of your pet peeves don't even bother reading. I am taking a page from Freightman's book and will not be back before Monday. I've got to work ALL freaking weekend.*

“What the fuck do you want!” Robin snapped before she could roll her window completely down.  Jay’s smiling face on the side of her window made it easy for her to finger him as the culprit who’d siphoned the gas out of her car.  She unlocked the car door so that she could open it while saying, “You’d better put my damn gas back in my car, Jay!”

“What are you talking about?” Jay chuckled as he pretended not to know how Robin had found herself in such a predicament.  He smiled as Robin got out of the car slamming it behind her.  He could hardly contain his laughter as he said, “I just saw you pulled on the side of the road and stopped to offer you my assistance.”  He tried to rub his hand across her cheek but her leaned out of his reach before he could touch her.

“You think this shit is funny?” Robin said folding her arms across her chest.  She shifted all of her weight to one side, as her neck rolled from side to side.  She was at the end of her rope when it came to dealing with Jay.  He had embarrassed her in front of both his and her family by telling everyone she had slept with Justice and that their child was really Justice’s.  He had not only called her a whore in front of everyone at Justice’s graduation party but also referred to their daughter as “someone else’s little bastard”.  The words hadn’t been invented that would allow her to forgive him.  Robin couldn’t find any humor in her situation, so his laughter just made her pressure rise.  She continued, “This ain’t funny, you stupid fucker!”

“Well, if you would return my phone calls or come see me like I ask then I wouldn’t have to take these measures. This is all your fault,” Jay replied sliding his hands inside his pants pockets.

“My fault!” Robin exclaimed.

“Yes, your fault,” Jay replied, “if you’d quit fooling around and just go ahead and come back home so we can put our family back together, none of this shit would be necessary.”

“Fooling around,” Robin said utterly floored by his words.  She couldn’t believe that he’d have the balls to try to make her not wanting to see him the basis for his irrational behavior.  She shook her head before she continued, “You know what? You’re right. It is my fault for ever getting involved with a dumb ass like you.  Why you bothering me? Huh? What happen to Sausage and the baby you have with her?  Why don’t you head on back to Georgia and carry on your new life with that bitch because this one don’t need or want you.”

Sasha and I, weren’t, aren’t and never will be…okay.” Jay said staring into Robin’s eyes, as though he were searching for the inkling of love he knew she must still have for him.  They were too far from the street light for him to have a truly good look at her face but he could tell that she wasn’t buying what he was selling from her body language.  Robin sighed deeply before he could speak signaling that she didn’t believe a word he was saying.  Still he continued, “If you must know then, Sasha and I did a DNA test and found out that the baby wasn’t mine just like I said.  She actually belonged to my cousin Grip.  He and Sasha had messed around off and on for years and she was pregnant the first time I slept with her. That’s why the babies looked so much alike cause all my family look alike.”

“Well, good for you but that don’t change shit between us,” Robin said rolling her eyes.  If all of this had come out six months ago then it definitely would have made a difference because she was still in love with Jay back then.  When she found out about the outside child she kept wishing that someone would come forward to prove that Jay’s mistress was lying but that hadn’t happened and as she stood there now, she was glad that it hadn’t.  Letting go of Jay had freed her to find her inner bad bitch again.  A bitch who didn’t make excuses for her man’s misdeeds, nor did she accept or put up with his infidelity and her being involved with Ryan just reassured her that she could still pull a good man if she wanted to.

“It has everything to do with us.  Now that she’s out of the picture we can work out our problems and get our family back on track.  I don’t want my kids growing up without their father.  My dad was there for me and I plan to be there for mine,” Jay said.

“Kids?” Robin said squenching up her face, as though she had no idea what he were talking about, “We ain’t got no kids together so if that’s what this is all about then you can just keep it moving.”

“Girl, please. Before you even start, I already had Justine tested and know that she’s mine and I know you carrying my baby right now…so” Jay said with an all-knowing expression on his face.  He continued as a smirk crawled across Robin’s face, “I’m guessing you’re like four months or something like that.  I hope it’s a boy.”

“Uh, I’m not pregnant you asshole,” Robin smirked.  She was livid that he had apparently secretly had their daughter tested.  She had intended to let him walk right out of both of their lives thinking that Justine didn’t belong to him.  Either way she didn’t plan on giving reconciliation with him a second thought.  “and even if I were pregnant what make you automatically think that it was yours?” Robin said as she unfolded her arms so that she could place her hands on her hips.  She was just being mean now; giving his brain the good mind fucking she felt it deserved.

If eyes could have reached out and choked her then she’d be one strangled chick because Jay was fuming.  He pulled his right hand from his pocket and grabbed his chin before he said, “First of all, don’t lie. Okay.  Nikki already told me you were pregnant; so don’t even start that shit. Second, what the fuck you mean I automatically assume.  Dammit, I better know!  Now, I done let that bullshit that happened with you and Just go because I feel like he was telling the truth about it only happening one time but don’t stand there and say no shit like…like you been fucking my cousin all this time.”

“First, yes I WAS pregnant. Second, I lost the baby. Third, what happened between me and Just happened one time and one time only! And A, B, C and D the baby that I was carrying wasn’t yours so-“ Robin started but she couldn’t get her lie out of her mouth before Jay was on top of her.  He covered her mouth with his right hand as he pushed her back against the door of the car.  He grabbed her throat with his other hand; with just enough pressure to restrain her movement.

He bit down hard on his bottom lip before growling through his teeth, “You think that shits funny? Huh? Bird, if I ever found out you were pregnant…no, if I found out you were fucking somebody else, I’d kill him and you.”

Robin initial response was fear because Jay wasn’t the violent type by any means, though he could have a temper.  He was more likely to cuss and fuss before just walking away.  Most of the time, he’d just get mad and leave her doing all of the yelling and screaming but for him to have his hands on her…well he must have really lost his damn mind.  Robin cut her eyes at Jay, as she could feel his mind reeling from the second thoughts he must have been having right then.  She was sure he knew what was to follow for such a disrespectful act.

Robin wasn’t scared of Jay and she knew that he knew it.  He had been bold enough to slap her face once, which resulted in him getting his ass kicked by her and some of her girls.  Plus, he wasn’t anyone to be afraid of. He wasn’t a killer or a fighter; just a fake ass lover.  Robin chuckled; a laughter that began deep in her belly and rose through her spirit to escape through the pockets of air beneath his palm.  Her laughter brought tears to the corners of her eyes and rage to his.  She took both hands and pushed hard in his chest pushing him off of her before she said, “You ain’t gon kill shit with your bitch ass and I told you don’t be calling me Bird.  If you wanna kill somebody, then do us both a favor and kill yourself.”

Jay didn’t think her remarks were funny so he grabbed her by her mouth again; squeezing much harder than he had before.  He said, “You think I’m fucking playing with you? You think this is a game? Ain’t nobody playing, girl!”

Just then the headlight of an approaching car illuminated the violence going on between them.  Still Jay wouldn’t release Robin’s face from his grip.  Robin tried to shake her face free from his grip to no avail and she was growing more upset than she had ever been with Jay.  He had taken this whole thing too far and the humor of what he was doing was gone.  When she got away from him tonight it would be the last time she was ever alone with him.  She wanted to wave down the passing car but he had her pent up against the car, holding her in place with the pressure from his body.

The car came to a screeching halt, which cause Jay’s grip to loosen enough for Robin to push him away from her again.  The driver’s door open and out stepped Robin’s knight in shinning armor. Ryan.  His voice boomed as he said, “Get your damn hands off that lady, man!” He slammed the car door and started to make his way around the car over to where they were standing.

“Ryan,” Robin said, her heart doing back flips at the sight of him.  He was so demanding, as he took up for a woman he thought he didn’t know.

“Robin?” he said puzzled as he continued to make his way over.  Robin could tell by his voice that he really didn’t know whom he was walking up on.  Jay stepped off to one side as if he were trying to get a good look at who was raising his voice at him.  “What’s going on here? Did he hit you?” Ryan asked as Robin rushed over to him before he could reach Jay.  He was so attentive as he tried to see if Jay had done any physical damage to her.

“No, no,” Robin said as she noticed that he was trying to move past her to get to Jay.  She continued, “I am alright. I just ran out of gas and this dumb ass showed up.”  Robin said, trying to sound calm as possible.  She didn’t want Ryan to get too worked up.

She was too late.  He turned his attention to Jay saying, “You better keep your damn hands off of her!” As though he couldn’t maintain his focus he returned his attention to Robin running his hand of the side of her neck before securing it behind her ear and said, “Are you sure you’re okay? Did he hurt you?”

Jay stormed over and pushed Ryan’s hand away from Robin.  Then as if guided by some innate instinct and with cat-like reflexes he pulled back his fist and punched Jay in the eye.  Jay stumbled backwards a few steps before catching himself, blinking his eye as he regained his composure.   Robin gasped but before she could form any words Jay punched Ryan in the jaw saying, “You hit like a bitch.”

Ryan stood firm, practically unmoved.  He grabbed Jay’s collar, as if he were using it to anchor him before he punched him three times in the nose.  The last blow made a crunching sound before the blood started to flow from Jay’s nose.  Jay collapsed to his knees and doubled over in a kneeling position as if he were praying. “Now, you crying like one,” Robin gasped.  She didn’t’ know how to react.  She had never had two men argue over her and here she was standing just out of the way of two men exchanging blows over her.

“Are you okay?” Ryan asked as he looked at his hand.  He shook it off before returned his full attention to Robin.  “Get your stuff.  I’ll take you home.” Robin was so shocked by Ryan’s behavior that she didn’t hesitate to step over Jay to open her car door to get her purse and workbag.  She locked her car doors before making her way inside Ryan’s car.  As she slid inside, she could hear Jay moaning…and a sliver of concern poked at her but she brushed it off.  Before she could close the door Jay lifted his head, his face all bloodied he said, “Don’t go with him, Bird!” It seemed to be a demanding plea but the sound of his voice was like nails on a chalkboard for Robin.  She slammed the door shut before she fastened her seatbelt across her chest.

Her full attention was now occupied with Ryan’s every move.  She was more attracted to him than any one woman should be to one man.  Robin was instantly transported back to high school where she developed a crush on guy solely because she saw him beat two guys to a pulp in the lunchroom.  To her, this little incident made Ryan the complete package…attractive, sexy, smart and now protective.  He was the soldier that Destiny’s Child was singing about because had surely just taken one to the jaw for her.

“I can take you home and we can just come back tomorrow and get your car or I could just go by the gas station and get some gas,” Ryan said after they had driven a few blocks away.  He reached over and placed his hand on top of hers and said, “Whatever you want to do.”

“Whatever I want to do?” Robin asked, her mind slowly going to the places of her deepest desire.

“Yes,” he said as he patted her thigh.  He seemed to be concerned only about her and her needs. Very sexy.
“Well then,” she said as she gently brushed her hand over his.  She knew his knuckles had to be throbbing because he had hit Jay extremely hard.  She had been in her share of fistfights so she knew that as soon as the adrenaline wore off that the pain would set in since she was a nurse she had to help him get bandaged up.  She trailed her hand up his arm over his neck to the spot where Jay’s blow had landed before she said, “I wanna go home with you.”
