You Think You Know...But (pt. 42)
The caps had been tossed, the degrees had been presented and Justice could finally close the book on his college years. It was time to party. His aunt and uncle were throwing his an informal graduation party in the garden of the home of Melody Montgomery, the only place spacious to accommodate their friends and family. His cousin Kenji, whom everyone referred to as “Grip”, had flown in from at Atlanta with his mother Aunt Grace and his some Benji, short for Benjamin. There were countless numbers of family, including in-laws, that he didn’t know, but apparently his aunt had called everyone out of the woodwork for the celebration. The music was lively, the food was soulful and the atmosphere was thick with pride and family love.
Justice was the man of the hour and everybody wanted to talk to him. He listened as the elders retold ... You Think You Know...But (pt. 41)
They were sweating like turkeys on Thanksgiving. The day had finally arrived. Justice and Robin had been so anxious to find out Justine paternity but now that the only thing that stood between knowing was a sealed envelop, they were both nervous about finding out. They just sat side by side staring at the white envelope afraid of what would happen when they found out what was inside.
“Well, open it.” Justice said finally breaking the silence between them. “Why don’t you open it?” Robin asked as she nibbled on her fingernails. She wanted to know but she was afraid that the results would prove what she’d been thinking all along. After a few more minutes of the both of them just sitting there, Nikki bit the bullet and picked up the envelope. She could hear her heart pounding in her chest while her ... You Think You Know...But (pt. 40)
It was closing time but Monique had to stay behind to sign all of the payroll checks and make sure the paperwork balanced out. She waved goodnight to Will and Mark as she tossed the last load of laundry into the dryer. She did a final walk through to make sure all of the lights were off before checking the door one final time before she started on her accounting task. She made her way to her office checking her watch before shrugging off the fact that Nikki was not there when she said she would be. Nikki had promised to stop by to cosign the payroll checks for the salon so that Monique could pass them out first thing in the morning.
She had just started printing the checks when Velle came unexpectedly dragging in. She figured Nikki must have sent him in her place, because he hadn’t said anything about stopping by when she talked to him earlier. ... You Think You Know...But (pt. 37)
Nikki was filled with love’s desire. She was anxious to see Justice, much more than she had been at any other time in their relationship. It was Ricardo’s weekend with Muffin and she had cleared her calendar of all things involving any kind of work. She had turned off her phones and had purposely left her laptop at work. Her mind and especially her body were hurting for him so that night she intended to soothe her ache for him. Her body was freshly showered and baby oiled up. She added a few sprits of Justice’s favorite perfume to all of the places she wanted him to pay close attention to, before admiring herself naked in the floor length mirrors of her walk-in closet. She had been hitting the gym three days a week, paying a crap load of money to work with the best personal trainer in town, to ensure that she tightened her body ...
You Think You Know...But (pt. 36)
Ricardo had always been Mama Williams’ favorite of any boy Nikki had ever brought home. His parents were good people; the son of a prominent female realtor, who even though she had been a single mother for the better part of his life had met and married a very prominent doctor, thus cementing her position in the community. He, himself was as charming as a man could ever want to be and the way he doted over Nikki while in her presence assured her that he was truly in love with her daughter. He was a brilliant father to her granddaughter, not to mention that he was more than attentive to his mother-in-law; there wasn’t a thing that she asked him that he wouldn’t do. He was very attractive and before Nikki became so spiteful, he was well employed with a growing Network Security firm, so it was no wonder that these desperate single women were all ...
You Think You Know...But (pt. 35)
“So, all these years of stabbing me in the back have been about me making you feel like less of a woman or something?” Nikki said, sarcasm lacing her every word. “Bullshit! You never had a problem telling anybody anything including me! You’ve always said whatever you wanted to whoever the fuck you wanted, including me! This shit is about you being jealous that any man that you wanted always wanted me!”
“Apparently, they didn’t want you since they always found their way to my bed.” Tia shot back, angry that Nikki would try to make it seem like all of their problems stemmed from some placed other than the way she treated her throughout their entire friendship. “Yes, they found their way there but they always came crawling back begging me to forgive them forgiveness leaving your ass looking stupid. You said, I ... You Think You Know...But (pt. 34)
“What in the world made you sleep with Jay?” Monique whispered as she hot curled another section of Robin’s hair. She couldn’t believe her cousin had gotten herself involved with the man who had not only played her for a fool but also laid his hand across her face. Monique had never understood the inner workings of Robin’s mind, as she had watched her fall for loser after loser defending worthless relationship after worthless relationship. This thing with Jay was no better. Robin still seemed steadfast in her stance that her marriage to Jay was over and for the first time ever, she wasn’t trying to make excuses or fairy tales about what had happened between her and Jay.
“Girl, I don’t know.” Robin said as she cringed the heat from the hot irons stung her scalp. “It had just been ... ONE NIGHT....8
I don’t know why I offered to drive. I was shaking so badly inside. All I could think was that the woman I love needs me and I had to get there quickly. Jason had told me in the elevator that Donna had fainted. Damn, my heart was beating so fast. I love her so much and the thought of her being in pain was tearing me apart.
I pull up to St. Luke’s and Jason jumps out before I can come to a complete stop. I head to the parking lot and park the car. I jump out the car and make a run for the emergency room entrance. I head for the nurses station and ask for Donna Brooks. The nurse asked me who I am. , and I tell her I’m her brother, and I came with her husband and had to go park. She tells me she is room 7 around the corner and I head in that direction. I come to another corner and I see ER room 7 on the ... ONE NIGHT....7.5Donna came to, to find a woman holding my hand, and a crowd of people around me. I tried to get up and the woman quickly told me not to try to move because I hit my head pretty hard. I reach up and touch my head to find a lump the size of a key lime. I grimace, since just the slightest touch cause me pain. I hear more voices as the EMS came through the crowd with a stretcher. “You did not have to call an ambulance, I’m fine” “No you are not fine you have been unconscious for 3 minutes. By the way my name is Susan, I’m a nurse. I was in the isle right behind you and I saw you fall. Thank God I was too.” The paramedics quickly got down beside me and started asking me all types of questions. They pick me up and put me on the stretcher, and strap me down. Then off I go into an ambulance. My head is pounding, and the sirens make me feel as if ... You Think You Know...But (pt. 33)Nikki returned to her office later that afternoon to find on her desk a bouquet of red roses with one yellow rose in the center with a note attached that read: Red roses symbolize love, while yellow roses symbolize friendship, This bouquet symbolizes our relationship. Look at all of the love that surrounds our friendship …and if you’re still wondering, Yes! I’M IN LOVE WITH YOU! Love Justice The words on the little white card nearly brought her to tears. It was the most thoughtful bouquet of flowers she had ever received and she had gotten quite a few, but now that had as much meaning as these. She inhaled the floral aroma wafting from her token of love and smiled at the joy this small gesture had given her. She hadn’t felt ... Page 1 of 212
