The Crossover, pt. 9 (It's almost over...)

Jay on the other hand walked in to waiting room towards Lyric with a renewed outlook on life. Her entire mood had shifted. Her doctor told her all of the test came back negative. The baby had an abnormal heartbeat and the doctor was concerned. It seems the baby heartbeat was beat to normal it must have been all of the recent excitement going on in her life that stressed the baby. Jay also suspected it may have had something to do with her spicy food that she was eating. Jay couldn’t remember all the details she lost focus after hearing the good news of having a healthy baby. She was ecstatic that nothing serious was going on with her unborn child.

She felt comfortable sharing the good news with Lyric. Jay wanted to swing from the trees on the mountain top. When she shared the news with Lyric, the indecisiveness and mood swings made sense to Lyric, Her friend was holding her fears in instead of telling the people who cared about her the most. Lyric and Jay hugged before departing the doctor’s office. Lyric said. Let’s go to brunch, my treat. Jay happily accepted. It was a new dawn to her. She had an extra bounce in her step. Time is flying…the ladies are verifying items for the shower, which is in a week. Marcus noticed a change, but hasn’t commented.

A week later, Det. Cobbs received an anonymous call from someone claiming that they have information on Jay. She tells the caller, go ahead. I’m listening. The caller proceeded to tell her that Jay has a large sum of drugs coming in, in four weeks. The caller gave Det. Cobbs a lot of details regarding the drop before hanging up abruptly. Det. Cobbs found the call to be suspicious since she has been monitoring Jay, Marcus, and La. Det. Cobbs didn’t bother with having the call traced. Her boss already questioned if she had any leads, if not she’s to move on to a more pertinent case. They haven’t been doing much lately. She’s only seen Jay coming and going from the doctor or a quick walk for exercise.

She hasn’t been deep in the hood Det. Cobbs assumed that’s because there may be some issues with her pregnancies, which is prohibiting her from hanging with the boys. Det. Cobbs ignored the caller. She knows better. She also knew that Jay’s baby shower was in a week so if anything were to go down, it would occur then while everyone is distracted. She planned on showing up uninvited to Club One to see what happens. Her boy toy Jah has stopped calling her, and she needed a sexual fix. She remembered hearing him say he was going to the shower with his cousin. He wanted to link up with Marcus regarding a business opportunity. There were whispers in the street that Marcus is looking to invest in a business venture.

Marcus is still furious about someone breaking into his apartment. He brings up the idea again to Jay about relocating to the County once the baby is born. Jay’s spirits have been better lately so he figured he’ll ask her now. She told him let’s talk after the shower, but I don’t see any problems with us doing that. Marcus was shocked. She said more than three words to him. Last week, she told him everything was good with the baby. She has another appointment in 2 days. He planned on attending. He felt something was going on with her health, and she isn’t speaking on it.

Lyric made the call to Det. Cobbs, per Jay’s request. Lyric made it sound very convincing; however, she suspected the detective wouldn’t follow through with the lead. Lyric had been following her around. While she tails Marcus during the night, she observed that she follows Jay on and off during the day and evening. Lyric learned a lot about Marcus by following the detective. He took very good care of Jay and he hasn’t been on the streets as much. He goes to the studio and stays there for several hours. Lyric noticed once or twice one of Savoy’s boys snooping around. He never stepped inside. She laughed, because he didn’t realize he was being taped. Lyric saw the camera when he got up on the building. It was part of the light fixture by the entrance. She wondered if Marcus knew that she was out there watching occasionally, if so he never let on.

Marcus brought Jay food, and ran some of her errands. Jay even went to Savoy’s house just to check in on him. Savoy was glad to see her. He got up and hugged her tightly. Jay had to remind him that she’s pregnant so he would loosen his grip on her. They talked for a couple of hours before she headed home. She had driven her car instead of one of Marcus’. In her rearview, she noticed that someone was following her. She pulled into the next store lot that she saw. The car kept driving by. When she looked at the driver, it appeared to be Ray’s trifling ass. This pissed Jay off, beyond description, she wanted to know why Ray was snuffing around her.

Ray knew better than to come near her. Jay called Savoy. Savoy instantly became enraged. He had a strong feeling that she had something to do with the shooting that occurred. She’s been too cooperative lately, doing everything and anything asked of her, including following Jay. Savoy couldn’t tell Jay that he ordered Ray to spy on her in hopes that he would learn something more about Marcus’ operation. Savoy believed Jay’s focus was on helping her man’s empire grow instead of her loyalty to her old friend. He told Ray to be discreet about following Jay, because he didn’t want any additional problems.

He knew selecting Ray was a dumb decision; however, he had to test her. He observed that Brock hasn’t been coming around as much as he used to, only when called by Savoy. Savoy questioned him about his sudden distance behavior. Brock told him he was laying low and chilling with his girl. He told Savoy, I’ll be back soon my funds are running low. Savoy knew the draw of money always had the boys back on the block. Savoy has a strong team and owned several corners. The only thing was he noticed a change in Marcus’ crew about a month ago, which made him extremely curious. He knew for a fact Marcus hasn’t taken over any new corners or expanded his product. Savoy had heard whispers of Marcus getting out of the game to concentrate on his music. He would support his brothers’ decision; however, he needed to know how the corners were going to be broken down and who would he have to deal with while Marcus retires temporarily. He felt his brother would return once he realized the money wasn’t the same. Hopefully, he will still be relevant in the game.

A few weeks ago Jay tried convincing him that Marcus was not stepping out on the business. He has other business ventures. She mentioned the music aspect of his life. Meanwhile, Savoy was already privy to it. It seemed Marcus’ enemies and so-called associates in the business wanted his beats without having to pay for them. He got a call on that. Based on the information that he got from Jay, Marcus’ beats weren’t stored in his apartment. Jay wasn’t sharing that information with Savoy…the request came out of nowhere. She proclaimed that she isn’t aware of where he housed the originals. This wasn’t anyone’s business.

Savoy thought back to that day, and wondered why Jay didn’t inquire about his sudden intrusion into Marcus’ business. Savoy hoped that Jay wasn’t lying to him. He wasn’t sure so he sent Lil Rome to break in. When Lil Rome returned, he didn’t have much. He had grabbed three or four CDs and cut up his furniture before exiting out of the window. He saw Jay enter the kitchen. He has to make it look like a robbery, per Savoy’s orders. Once Savoy got a hold of the mix CDs, he personally took them to Jason, the president of Flaming Records. Jason thanked Savoy paying him handsomely. Savoy told Jason if Marcus ever finds out about this I will kill you. If he wants help at getting even with you; I will decline him once and thereafter I ride with my family to the end. Jason understood. He had to respect the honestly amongst thieves. He wished his cousins did.

His cousins caused a huge and costly disturbance in the emergency room that forced his father and two uncles to return to the business two years ago. They had to reinforce the rules and move some of his cousins sand siblings around. He was lucky that he’s still in charge of the label. His brother who was a majority owner before going to jail would be the person calling the shots. His brother was sexually harassing male and female employees before his arrest for 1st degree assault. His brother was supposed to reclaim his position at the label. At the last minute, his uncles relocated him to Southern Florida all because he whipped some young boy’s ass bringing his previous jail sex-apades to the streets. He had an image to maintain, and the young goon had to learn…what happens in jail stays in jail.
