The Crossover, pt. 26… the end

Michael is driving the speed limit since he doesn’t have a license. Pat is in the backseat with Jay comforting her as much as possible. He niece was sweating and in a lot of pain. She was silently praying for her that the birthing process goes smoothly, and the baby comes out healthy. They all knew that Jay has gone through a lot the last several months. Everyone hoped the violence was over.

Marcus saw one of the lights in the house cut on. He was still in his truck wondering who was in there. Parked several cars down was his acquaintance from Flaming Records. He got out of the car. He walked down the block as he belonged with his piece hidden out of view of the bystanders. As he got closer to Marcus car, he got nervous. He knew that he had to do it.

Savoy was in his car. He called all his boys to inform them that he was heading to the hospital because Jay was in labor. If they needed him call, but he may not immediately answer. He planned on focusing on Jay throughout the entire process unless Marcus was there. He would have to alter his plans. He doubted that Michael would have called him if Marcus was there.

Jay and her family pull up to Mercy twenty minutes later.

Her father pulls up to the curb, and waves an orderly down for a wheelchair. Once the chair is brought to his sister car, they help Jay into it. He asked the orderly where he should park his car. The orderly pointed to the garage. He mentioned something about getting your parking ticket validated, but Michael was already getting back into the car. He didn’t want to miss any moment of his daughter labor.

They checked Jay in and she is pulled into the back area while on the line due to her loud moaning, and uncontrollable tears. The pain was unbearable. The nurses begin working on her. They ask her questions.

As the nurses tend to Jay, her father tightens the car up in its parking spot when he sees Lyric. She is bouncing towards the hospital. He wonders where she parked. He gets out. He calls out her name. Lyric turns and smiled. Once she notices who called out her name, she and Michael walked towards the emergency entrance. They both admit to one another that they are nervous, and can’t wait until this is over.

Marcus so caught up. He doesn’t notice the gun in his side view mirror. While he is looking through some papers in his truck, the side window explodes and his feels a sudden pinch. He then feels something warm against his skin. The shooter doesn’t even look inside the truck. He knows that he hit him that’s all that matter. He walks back to his car without anyone paying him attention that’s because Marcus leans on his steering wheel, and the horn begins to blow. A lady that was standing across the street called the police.

Marcus sat there in his own blood. He picked up his cell phone, and called La. He told La that he has been shoot, and where he was. He told him not to call Jay. She has a lot going on right now. La thought Marcus was going home, but he did something stupid. Jason on the other hand got a call informing that Marcus has been hit. He would have to wait to hear the full news that he died.

The EMTS arrive on the scene. They attended to his wounds, which were severe. He actually was hit twice.

La showed up after the EMTs got Marcus into the ambulance. He wanted to know where they were taking him. They were taking him to Bon Secours Hospital.

Savoy got to the hospital next; however, his cell phone rings as he is about to enter the hospital. It’s one of his boys. He informs him that Marcus got shot and is on his way to the hospital. Savoy asked who did it. His boy says no one knows, no one is saying anything but it happened near one of your houses. Savoy felt his stomach drop. Everyone will suspect him of taking out Marcus. He had a lot of his plate now. He turned around. He had to figure out what was going on.

And then he thought, I will have Jay all to myself if he dies. He called his boy back, and told him to find out what hospital he’s at. Once he had that information, he would head in that direction. Marcus was his brother. He didn’t know how he was going to back this news to Jay. He just shook his head.

Jay is in labor still. The doctor informs her she is 6 centimeters. Jay asks what does that mean actually. The doctor informs her she had 4 more to go before she can have a natural birth; however, if she doesn’t a C-section would be done. The doctor informed her he was concerned for the baby since she and the baby experienced a lot stressful situation during the pregnancy.

Lyric and Michael were chatting it up in the hallway when they saw Savoy. He wasn’t smiling. He would have to tell them at least. He walked up to them and first about Jay before spilling the beans on what was going on with Marcus. Once Lyric heard the news, she fainted. Michael caught her before she touched the ground. He sat her down in one of the waiting rooms chairs. Michael began grilling Savoy, asking him if he was sure the information was accurate. Savoy assured him that it came from a very reliable source.

They just looked at one another. None of them wanted to be the one to tell Jay what happened to Marcus. They sat in the waiting room and whispered amongst themselves. They agreed to wait until after she gave birth this way she and the baby would be out of harm’s way. Even after agreeing on the delay, they agreed that Savoy should stay with Jay at least for the moment. She needs to know that at least one of the men in her father besides her father is there for her. Meanwhile, Lyric will hit the streets to get more information.

On the way to the hospital, Marcus goes into cardiac arrest. He dies en-route to the hospital. No one knows this. The news will blow a lot of people. La is driving behind the ambulance. He is wondering what is going back there. He knows that Marcus is a trooper, and that everything will be okay.

Det. Cobbs calls the house again to check on Jay, and that’s when Walter informs her that Jay went into labor. She wants to go to the hospital, but knows that Marcus and the rest of them are there. Her presence would only create an unexplainable commotion.

Hours past, everything is in an uproar. Jay is asking for Marcus. No one at the hospital knows that he has passed away as of yet. Jay is now at 10. The doctor is prepping himself.

He has his nurse put on his gloves. Jay’s legs are spread as wide as they can go. Savoy is in there with her holding her hand. Her father didn’t want to be in there for that, he believed something should remain private between father and daughter. Savoy didn’t even look down there. He held her hand. She gripped his hand like he was planning on running away from her.

Minutes later, the doctor pronounced that she had a healthy baby boy. Jay was already crying. The moment was overwhelming. The doctor slapped his ass, and cried. He had a strong pair of lungs. The doctor handed the baby to a nurse so can clean him up before putting him in Jay’s arms. She couldn’t wait until she had her baby in her arms.

She looked around and there still weren’t any signs of Marcus ever being there.

Marcus body arrived at the hospital, and the EMTs declared him DOA and he was wheeled in the hospital without much priority. When La finally caught up with one of the EMTs, he asked him where Marcus was. The EMT apologized and informed him that he didn’t make it. La just stood there as the ambulance tech went about his business. La falls to his knees, not Marcus.

Jay named her son Isaac Marcus.

Once the birthing process was over, Jay started inquiring with her father, aunt and Savoy about what happened to Marcus and Lyric why weren’t they there for her. Michael turned his head. He didn’t know how to tell his daughter the news. He felt this would break the camel’s back. He looked over at Savoy for some assistance. Savoy sighed heavily. He then proceeded to tell her what happened to Marcus. Jay just sat there with no emotion on her face.

She couldn’t cry. She wouldn’t cry. She was saddened at the news. In her mind, Rosa putted up immediately.
