The Crossover, pt. 24… an ending no one expected… part ONEJason heard about what happened at the shower. He had a shooter there himself to take out Marcus. He wasn’t happy about how their business arrangement turned out. He didn’t want to involve his father and uncle. He didn’t realize that Marcus’ pockets went that deep. He truly underestimated his skills, and knowledge base. It wouldn’t happen again. He couldn’t allow it to happen again. He was barely going to make money off of Marcus. Once the other artist heard about how Marcus maneuvered his royalties they may try the same bullshit. He needed to set an example so no one else would get thirsty.
His shooter wasn’t able to get off any rounds. He claimed that Marcus was never positioned where he could get off a clear shot without hitting any innocent bystanders. Jason reminded his guy while the one who took at the dyke didn’t care about bystanders now did he. Jason was disgusted. He now had to figure out another way to get at Marcus, which didn’t take long. His family has connection all over the place. He would just make a few calls to see if Marcus was on anyone’s radar. He would snitch on the bitch if he had to just to get him out of the way.
It’s now 10 o’clock in the morning. Jay is wondering where everyone is. She is scheduled to be released. She wanted out her there so bad.
Pinkey resurfaces. Meanwhile, several people think she had something to do with the shooting or she is with the police due to her sudden disappearance. In her case, none apply. She just needed to get away. She really loved Ray. Her feelings bubbled to the top that night, and she hasn’t been able to shake them off. She needed some me time to get herself together. She knew where Ray kept her money so she heading the condo and snatched all that she could. Once she got to her destination, a Bed and Breakfast in Laurel. She counted the money. She walked away with close to half a million dollars. There was no way she could blow that, but that was the talk off the town that she blow the money and Ray got killed behind it.
Pinkey eased herself back into town. She changed up her appearance. She toned down the hair color, her dress, etc. For anyone to recognize her they would have to take a triple take. Even her makeup was done differently. No one has been arrested for killing Ray, and she heard through the grapevine that Ray may have been a snitch. She doesn’t believe it. She’s been to Ray’s home, and there isn’t anything that would lead someone to that conclusion. She knew that Ray had a safe somewhere in the house that she wasn’t aware of. She had to figure out a way to get into Ray’s house. She drove past and noticed that no one was out there, but she didn’t trust the feeling that she had so she kept moving. She would have to sneak into the building. She has an extra key. She made a copy several weeks prior to Ray’s death without her permission. She was getting tired of waiting until she let her in.
Pinkey chilled twice with the young lady that she met at the party. She wasn’t falling for her, but the pussy was on point. The only thing that she didn’t like was how she repeatedly asked Pinkey about Ray and or Savoy. Pinkey knew nothing about them, at least that is what she said each time she was asked.
Everyone came over to Marcus’ house excluding Savoy or anyone from his crew to see Jay. She was finally released from the hospital. She smiled even though she wasn’t feeling up to all this company. They came and went over the course of three days. She was so happy when the guest starting tapering off. She didn’t want to be rude. She needed some alone time and she needed to talk to Lyric.
A week passed. Marcus confirmed that the twins weren’t his. He showed the results to Jay and Coca. Coca broke down crying. It was evident that the twins weren’t related to anyone linked to Marcus. Although he had his suspicions that the father would have been Savoy, he is glad that he didn’t have to deal with another level of betrayal from his brother. They were close, but still had lingering beefs between them that needed to be addressed. Jay was ecstatic when she heard the news. She got out of bed, and went to hug Marcus. It has been a long while since they touch each other in a sensual manner. She was in the hospital, and then people were stopping by unannounced. Her father was protective Joe while this was going on. He told her that he wanted to talk to Marcus. She told him he can talk to him anytime he wants. She doesn’t have anything to do with that Marcus is a grown man.
Marcus while waiting for the results that he paid a lot money to obtain, he had many flashes to his active sex life with Coca. She was one of the best he ever had, but she couldn’t compare to Jay. Jay gave him everything. He was younger than and thought that they were meant to be with each other. Luckily for him, she walked off or they probably would still be together, but unhappy. He believes Jay is his destiny. They have their moments, but it doesn’t ever last long. Coca was a gold digger than, and it appears that she is still a gold digger. Her appearance has differently changed.
When he informed Coca that he wasn’t the father in typical Maury style she was mortified. She begun to spill the beans about sleeping with Savoy, and that he may be the father. Marcus busted her bubbles once more and told her that no one with his lineage is linked to those kids so she may want to try again. There was nothing for her coming from him or Savoy. He told her that he planned on telling Savoy after he left. What he didn’t tell her is he called Savoy on his way to her family’s house and informed of the DNA findings. They both signed with relief that is when Marcus knew that Savoy had slept with her. He shouldn’t care one way or that other about parental linkage but he did. Marcus bookmarked this. He was adding to his list of beefs with Savoy. He definitely had to deal with Savoy’s feelings for Jay.
During the last few days Marcus decides that he and Jay need to relocate out of the city, he owns a home in the county that his mother currently lives in. It is more than enough room in the house for them to move in. His mother doesn’t really venture past the upstairs apartment that he had built for her when the house was remodeled. She never went into the main house unless he asked her to go pull something that he needed from his library. Before he hooked up with Jay, he would sleep out there more than in the city a lot had changed over the course of a year. His mother told him before the shower that he should move back into the house with his family. She also told him that she would be open to assisting Jay with the baby since she will be a new mother.
It all sounded great to Marcus. He brought it up once or twice, but Jay wasn’t receptive to the idea. He planned on bringing it up again over dinner. He made reservation for them at one of the local seafood restaurants near the Inner Harbor. He hoped that she would be willing to relocate now with all of the killings and shooting going on. He didn’t want anything to happen to her. He knew that he wasn’t moving in the condo that Savoy purchased for her. He thought that the gesture was beyond crossing the line, but he kept his cool during the shower.
He couldn’t believe the boldness of his brother. He saw in Jay’s face that she was just as surprised as he was at the gift. Jay briefly spoke to Lyric about that night, and told Lyric that she could move into the condo as long as she didn’t do any business there, and kept up with the monthly fees associated with the upkeep. Lyric agreed. Jay just didn’t tell Marcus. She was somewhat torn about the idea at first. She knew Savoy would become enraged if he found out someone else other than her was staying there. She had to be careful about this situation.
Marcus’ mother couldn’t wait. She was ready to assist Jay with the baby. She pointedly told Marcus she didn’t want any of his life spilling into the environment. She has been out here and no one ever stops by unexpectedly or calls her. Anyone that stops by knows her from church or her weekly knitting group. She just wanted to be a grandmother.
Marcus said. He knows.
The crews are patiently awaiting the birth of Jay’s baby. It’s taking forever to them. There is so much that needs to be done, and so much that has been done. Some folks are still worried about this Ray thing, while others are hoping Jay is linked to it somehow. It is amazing how your friends flip when the chips are down. Savoy doesn’t believe it. He’s been busy trying to track down some leads. He’s been unsuccessful with each attempt.
He’s still aware that the killer is in his midst. Luckily for him Jay believes that the shooter or shooters are linked to her crew. No one else would have the gall to enter into their house, and do that without some motive. Lately, they have been quiet except for the scam she and Lyric was working on Jah. Even Det. Cobb’s presence didn’t go unnoticed. They quietly inquired amongst each other why she is present. What is she looking for? Only Jay could answer that question, but she remained silent too much talk could lead to too much trouble.
Another week passes.
Marcus produces another single for Bee Noise, another up and coming artist this time from Baltimore. He has to submit his own. He was working with her that night Det. Cobb’s come to the studio trying to be slick. He was glad that he was there, because this schedule will definitely increase in status. In the music, being hot for the moment was nice but you have to establish longevity and that is what he wanted for him, his family, and his boys. He really planned on pulling from the streets.
One day he was with La, and they were on their way to mall. He wanted to get Jay something nice to wear to the hospital. She should be going in any day. They were laughing and checking out the women as he drove. It was nice out but there was a chill in the air. He happened to look out the window and noticed Pinkey standing in front Starbuck’s on St. Paul St. He abruptly pulled his truck in an illegal parking space, and hopped out. He had La’s head spinning. La didn’t know what the hell was going on. He just turned the truck off, snatched the keys and his glock and followed suit.
Once La noticed who Marcus had in his sights, he smiled. It has been a minute since anyone has seen her. A lot people believe she knows more than what she is telling, especially after her disappearance. Marcus walked briskly, and caught up to her before she was able to cross the street heading towards John Hopkins’ Barnes and Nobles book store. La was several minutes behind him.
Marcus had a tight grip on her arm, and look down at her. He wanted answers and she better have them or there would be some problems. La finally caught up. He bumped Marcus indicating lighten up. They looked around and some people were looking in there directions. Marcus pinched Pinkey and she loudly said everyone was okay. This is her boyfriend. He was wondering where I had disappeared too without informing him. Some of the nosey watcher turned while others still tuned in.
La whispered to Marcus. They began walked towards his truck. There would be no mall trip right now. They were taking Pinkey to one of his houses off Biddle St. They walked quickly. They all hoped into the truck.
He knew that Pinkey couldn’t go missing or anything like that because there was a boatload of witnesses that can describe him and La; however, she would be taken and questions until she talked. He asked La to drive so he could hold on to Pinkey while they drove to the stash house. Marcus called ahead to make sure no one was there. He told Greg to have anyone clear out, and take it to the next house several blocks over. No one questioned his rash decision they just did as they were told. La drove through the alley, and dropped off Marcus and Pinkey before driving the truck down the block to find a blocking space. He would walk back up to the house.
As La walked back to the house, he got excited. He needed some action. The hood had been dry since the shooting at the baby shower.
By the time La got to the house, he heard Pinkey offering sexual favors in order to avoid what was coming. She repeatedly told Marcus she didn’t know anything. She did say that she took money from Ray’s house, but she didn’t disclose the amount. He didn’t care. It wasn’t his money. He’ll probably tell Savoy depending on how he felt. He wasn’t feeling his brother at this moment either. When Pinkey saw La, she broke down crying. She didn’t want this. She asked La to help her. He just looked at her like she was silly, which made her cry even harder. She didn’t deserve this. She offered to do both of them. They looked at each other neither one of them has had sex in the last few days so this unsolicited offer was appeasing to their ears.
Marcus told her he doesn’t want to fuck her nasty ass but she can suck his dick until he blows. La on the other hand, pulled a condom from his back pocket. She was just whimpering at this point. In her mind, she knew to the dudes in the hood she will always be that “hoe”. They didn’t have any respect for her. Marcus asked her once more what information she had about the shootings. She said none. I am not aware of what Ray was doing. I just knew she stayed in the streets. Then she remembered a call she overheard, she told Marcus and La about it. La thought back to the original shooting. He wouldn’t be surprised if that shooting was about him and not Jay.
This tidbit of information stopped her from being molested. She offered so she couldn’t claim rape. Marcus told her to go in the bathroom and clean up. He and La had something to work out. La was very familiar with the name Brock. He had to remind Marcus of who Brock was from their days in baby bookings. Marcus couldn’t believe it. He said isn’t that the dude that rolls with Savoy occasionally. If I am not mistaken that is his trigger guy from time to time. La just shook his head.
Everyone was pointing towards Savoy. Marcus didn’t want to share this information with Jay. She would be pissed beyond words. She wouldn’t think Savoy did it. She would assume that Ray somehow planned this on her own. Marcus didn’t understand her loyalty to Savoy sometimes. At times, he questioned who she wanted to be with. He knew that they were together, and that she’s never been with Savoy but since all this has occurred it has him asking questions to things that he has observed during their time together.
Jay is chilling at her aunt Pat’s house until she goes into labor no one wants her alone at her house or Marcus’. Her father submits to her every desire. She doesn’t take advantage of this she is enjoying having her father around for the bath of his first, probably only grandchild. Her feelings for Rosa resurfaced. She still had feelings for Marcus. She didn’t have anyone who she could confide in about this because she never really told Lyric the whole truth about Rosa and her. She didn’t want to have to explain the gaps in the story just to express herself. Jay thought about talking to her father, but this may prove to be too much for him even after being locked up for many years. She opted for her aunt Pat.
They talked for hours. Surprisingly enough Jay’s aunt gave her the advice that she needed to hear. She wasn’t judgmental or surprised by any of her admissions. She just listened and responded when she was needed. Jay truly appreciated that. Now she needed to courage to talk to Marcus about where they stood.
Walter was home. He didn’t want to do anything. He stayed in the house and watched television all day. He wasn’t motivated to do anything. Jay understood to some degree, but she wanted him to regain his passion for life. If he didn’t that the shooter won. She told him this repeatedly. He heard her. He just wasn’t ready to face the world as a whole.
He told her when I am ready to go outside. I will call you, because I want you there by my side. He told her even with our differences and occasionally beefs you always have my back. I love you for that. Jay just blushed, and hugged him as much as she could with her huge gut.
Three days later, Jay goes into labor. She was sitting on the couch watching television with her father talking about an episode of “Gangland” when she felt a rush of cramps across her belly. She didn’t know at first what they were until her aunt came in after hearing yell out. She told Jay your have contractions. We have to get you to the hospital. Her aunt kept asking her questions, like when did they start, can you tell how far apart they are, etc. Jay is in agony. She’s just looking at her aunt like she is crazy.
Her father puts up Pat’s house phone to call Marcus. He needs to be here. He tries his house and mobile phone without success. He asked Jay is there another number that he could try for Marcus. She said yes, but she doesn’t remember the number right now. Her father told her to try to remember because he needs to be her. You are not going through this alone. You didn’t get pregnant alone. Jay wanted to laugh at her father’s statement, but she couldn’t. He was so serious, and she was in a lot of pain. She didn’t think the final stages would be like this. She heard the stories of childbirth from some of her acquaintances and women at the doctor’s office but this was a new pain to her; one didn’t pain on experiencing again.
Her aunt calls the doctor. He tells her to time the contractions before bringing her to the hospital, because if it’s a false alarm they will send her home. Her Pat said okay. She hold Jay’s hand while they all sit in the living room wondering how long before the baby arrived, and where the hell is Marcus.
