The Crossover, pt. 18 – Shots ring out… so who got the shout out?
Jay and Lyric believed the shower was a success until Savoy’s date acted the fucking fool. Jay’s and Marcus’ family said they would deliver all of the gifts to their home. Marcus’ mother couldn’t make it to the shower since she had to work. Although, she had promised she would be there. Both Jay and Marcus silently felt something else was under the works. Jay still hasn’t met his mother but she has spoken to her on the phone several times. Marcus has assured Jay that his mother likes her.
They grab Jay’s belongings. They are getting ready to leave when they heard gun fire ring out somewhere in the club. Lyric pushed Jay to the floor while telling her to stay put. Jay pulled out her weapon, and handed it to Lyric. Lyric was not surprised that Jay was carrying one of her pieces. They finally heard the screams over the music. Lyric heard footsteps going past the room they were in. She wondered where Marcus was. She wanted to know who was shooting at the baby shower. It seemed like everything was going downhill since this bitch resurfaced.
Savoy had finished talking to Coca when he heard the shots. It sounded like 3 – 4 quick hits before panic kicked in. He told Coca to there with her boys. He was pissed because they shouldn’t be in the club in the first place. She was so pressed to get what she thought was owed to her she placed her and their lives in jeopardy for some hood fame. He couldn’t deal with her right now. She wasn’t making much sense.
Det. Cobbs heard the shots as well. She had to get out of there before her counterparts arrived. She wouldn’t be able to explain her way of this. She wasn’t supposed to be there. She was no longer taking caution. As she slipped through the crowd, she was spotted by Marcus. He was looking for Jay and Lyric. He also was trying to make sure their family members were okay. He didn’t have time to follow behind Det. Cobbs, but he planned on visiting her soon.
He refocused. His boy had been calling his name. He finally tugged at his shirt to get his attention. There were people running place them, bumping into them. They were going in the opposite direction of the crowd. Marcus wondered who got hit. As they got closer to the hallway leading to the bathroom they heard screaming. Someone was yelling NO, NO, NO….not my baby. Marcus tried placing the voice. He couldn’t. Meanwhile, they heard sirens coming in close, and he still hadn’t located Jay or Lyric.
Lyric eased out of the room once the coast was care. She had her back to the wall. There were still people running past her, looking back. It is funny how comedians crack jokes about how blacks run away from gun fire or drama, but some of these hood niggas actually lingered around like this was an everyday occurrence. Shit, for some of them it was. They didn’t fear death or gun fire. It will catch them eventually. She kept moving forward. She heard the yelling. It was a female yelling, screaming to the top of her lungs.
Savoy opened the door. He must have blocked out any sound once the shots rang out because lying before him was Ray that hoe, he couldn’t remember her name at the moment was holding her, rocking her back and forth. It looked like Ray took one to the back and head. He wasn’t surprised that someone finally took her out. It was bound to happen due to her mouth…loyalty in the hood only lasted so long when someone in the hood was disrespect too so many people.
Savoy just stood there. Lyric made it to the location. She just looked back and forth from Ray’s dead body to Savoy. She knew this news would make Jay’s day. Moments later Marcus was on their heels. He linked up with La, and two other of his boys. They looked down at Ray. No one was mourning her but Pinkey. Brock came from around the corner holding. Savoy told him to put down his weapon. Brock lowered his weapon. La looked at him. Marcus sensed something was wrong. They just came from around that corner and they did not see Brock there. Where did he really come from? They would get answers to those questions later on. From what Marcus could see Ray take two bullets where did the others go. There was people in the hallway when the shots were fired this would mean someone may not realize that they have been hit.
Jay was still in the room. No one came back to get her. She wanted to know what was going on. She crawled towards the door. She cracked it opened. She heard voices, but she couldn’t tell what they were talking about.
Unknown to everyone, Walter was in the bathroom. He was hit by a stray bullet that came through the wall. He was in there about to get some head from his girlfriend. This is when he found out his sexy girlfriend used to be a man. He / She had a sex change operation. He wasn’t feeling it. She felt it was time to tell him since she wasn’t aware that he was related to Jay. She knew Jay from the gay club scene, and didn’t want any problems. She used to perform in drag, sell her / himself to straight boys that were interested, and used drugs. His drug of choice was coke. He would cop from Jay whenever she stopped by the spot looking for a chick for the night.
He couldn’t afford the drama. He was clean now, and living a good life. He was where he wanted to be…as a she. He thought he had a good man in Walter. However, all that changed when he heard the part of the truth. Walter stormed out of the stall. She was seconds behind when. When he staggered backwards falling to the floor, she didn’t know what was wrong with him. She went to his side. She wasn’t used to this hood shit. She began yelling and calling for help. No one heard her. The music was still playing.
Marcus had to send one of his boys to the booth to ask Quick to cut the sounds. He must not have heard the commotion or noticed that the dance floor wasn’t as full as it once was. When Timothy got to the booth, he understood why the music was still playing. Quick was getting his sex on with one of the local groupies. She was riding him. All Timothy could do was smile. He had a piece of her as well several months ago. Her pussy made a nigga sing. Timothy didn’t want to interrupt; however, he had no other choice. He tapped the chick on the shoulder. She looked up immediately covering her breast. Timothy didn’t know why she did that. She was still exposed.
Once she stopped grinding on Quick, he opened his eyes. He saw one of Marcus’ boys standing there. He asked him what’s up. Timothy replied that he need him to lower the music or turn it off completely there’s been an incident. He didn’t want to give too much information in front of ole girl. She ran her mouth in the hood. She had a niche for pillow talk.
Quick pushed her off. He pulled up his pants. He then stood up, moved towards his equipment within seconds the music was lowered. This made the remaining people put down there drinks, and head for the door. It was too late for them, because the cops had arrived and wasn’t allowing anyone out or in.
Jay heard soft yelling. She stayed down while she inched towards the male bathroom. Her stomach felt heavy. She prayed that she didn’t go into labor, not tonight. She pushed the door open. She saw the female that came with Walter crying and rocking a body back and forth. Jay heart instantly sunk. She just knew that the body she was holding was Walter’s. She couldn’t go inside. She started screaming herself.
Jay’s screams were loud. It was painful. Everyone come running. Her father had ducked out earlier assuming that someone from his past was attempting to catch up with him. He dropped his gun and money in the car before returning inside. He had to ensure that his daughter was okay. The police wouldn’t allow him back inside. He had to tell him that he is the father of the expecting mother. For once a cop took sympathized with him, and sent him back in. Michael didn’t know where to look first. The cops were all over the place. He saw police tape all over the place. He prayed that nothing happened to his daughter or unborn grandchild.
His sister was standing with one of the officers, she called him over. He didn’t like the look on her face. She looked sick to her stomach. He asked her what is wrong. The medics were in the building as well as other technicians that he wasn’t truly familiar with. He asked her where is Jay and Walter. His sister busted out crying. He yelled his been hit. They are getting ready to take him to the hospital now. Luckily for him, Jay stumbled across him and his girlfriend in the bathroom. Michael asked again where Jay is. Pat told him that she was in the ambulance. The EMT’s wanted to check her and the baby since she was complaining about stomach pains.
He loved his nephew and wasn’t discounted what happened to him, but right now he needed to be with his daughter. He hugged his sister and then released her. He wanted to be with his seed. He told Pat he would meet her at the hospital. The officer talking to her had some questions for him. Michael said I am not aware of what transpired her this evening. I am just a guest and the father of the expecting mother.
Michael eased back outside.
Meanwhile, in the back of the club a sheet was placed over Ray’s body. Pinkey was being comforted by a stranger. Everyone was just lingering around. Most of them concealed their weapons. Marcus was able to converse with the officers. He asked one of the officers why was Det. Cobbs there this evening. The officer wasn’t aware of Det. Cobb or why a detective would be at such a function. Marcus was offended by his statement.
When they made it to Jay earlier, before the police got to them. She was crying, moaning, and in total disarray. She couldn’t believe that someone had hit Walter. This was the second time he got himself hurt in regards to the life that she lives. She told herself that some changes definitely needed to be made. She couldn’t talk freely to Lyric. She had some questions about her swap.
Lyric had put that bug in the detective’s ears several weeks ago, but she didn’t bite apparently so this evening was the perfect time for Jay to do her one of her final shipments. It was relative easy. Her payment was disguised as one of the gifts, and the product was enclosed in one of the cake boxes. The one with the balloons taped to it. It was an easy move no one would pay attention to someone attempting to get a piece of cake or her being handed gifts.
Jay told them to look inside. Savoy pushed the door open first. The look on his face spoke volume. He didn’t know what to say to Jay or to her family at that moment. Savoy hoped that Walter survived this is too much for his baby Jay. He bent down to touch her face…at that moment the police told everyone to back up. They started taking names, one was on his knees trying to talk to Jay, and all she could do was point towards the bathroom door.
