The Crossover, pt. 16 – Guess what?
Jay and Marcus walk into Club One. They are pleasantly surprised. Lyric made some last minute changes unknown to them. Jay should have known that Lyric would put her own twist on the event. Marcus didn’t say anything. He didn’t want to ruin the moment for Jay. He didn’t want the gift table near the front of the dance floor, because that was a weak spot. It exposed all of them to the crowd. He hoped nothing went down tonight. Although, he made sure his boys were prepared for the worse. All he cared about was getting Jay somewhere safe.
It’s now 9:30 and folks are beginning to show up. Jay was sitting on a chair smiling and speaking to everyone that came in. She saw some females that she had the occasional fling with before she got with Marcus. She was impressed that none of them got smart with her. She could tell some of them came to see if the stories were true; while others actually brought gifts big and small. Marcus felt awkward standing there while these females stared at his soon to be wife, and rubbed her stomach while wishing them well.
As the night went on, different people come in and get comfortable eating and drinking. Some of Marcus’ family members came in. They exchanged words. For some this was the first time meeting Jay, and they were surprised that she was pretty. When they heard that she used to mess with women they automatically assumed she was unattractive and that Marcus got caught up due to not using a condom. They were silently eating their words. The music was playing, sounding great. The guests that were present were getting their dance on. Lyric was excited.
While Jay turned to speak to Marcus her aunt arrived with Walter. Jay looked at her watch. Her aunt wasn’t extremely late; however, she would have preferred for her to be there when Marcus’ people arrived so it would have show family unity. Jay shook off her negative thoughts. She got up to hug her aunt. There was a guy behind her with shades on. He looked vaguely familiar, but Jay couldn’t place the face with the glasses on. She just assumed it was her aunt’s date. She released her aunt waiting for her to introduce her companion for the evening. Her aunt turned to him. He took his shades off. Jay couldn’t believe who it was. She had to sit down.
Her aunt went up to her, and held her shoulders while she just stared at her father. Marcus wanted to know who this man was that had Jay speechless. He moved closer to her touching her other shoulder. Jay’s aunt patted his hand trying to assure him that everything was okay. Marcus still wanted answer. He parted his lips about to inquire when Jay whispered “daddy”. Marcus couldn’t believe what he was hearing. Jay had told him that her father was in jail. She didn’t mention his release date or that he was home. By the look on Jay’s face, this was a total surprise to her. He was glad that her father was present. He just wished he would have made his presence known before the shower. Jay cannot afford too many surprises or she may go into labor.
Jay wanted to spend some time with her father and aunt. Her father told her to stay where is. He understands that this is her night. They have the rest of their lives to catch up. Jay liked to way that that sounded.
Michael, Jay’s father, went to the bar and got himself a drink for himself and his sister. Pat was happy that her family was together again. She wanted everyone to come over for Sunday dinner. She would bring it up later when Walter arrived with his date. He was running late when he rushed out of the house telling his mother and uncle he would meet them at the bar.
Jay continued to meet and greet with Marcus on her side. He repositioned himself. He was standing behind her and too the right. He felt he needed to be closer now that some of the more savory folks from the hood where coming in. Savoy finally arrived with his crew. He bent down to kiss and hug Jay. Marcus was not comfortable with his movement. He sensed there was more to it. He shook it off for the moment. Savoy gave Marcus dap before pulling Coca to his side re-introducing the lost love birds. Marcus didn’t know what to say. Jay looked the female up and down wondering what her connection was to Savoy and Marcus. Coca looked down at Jay smiling. Jay just rolled her eyes at the bitch. Jay planned on getting answers once the she was down with the meet and greet, which would be ending in thirty minutes. The club was packed with people.
She spoke to a lot of people. Some she knew, some she didn’t.
Coca didn’t bring her sons with her. She asked her friend to bring them in at 11-ish. She rode in with Savoy. She knew that he wasn’t bringing any drama to Marcus at least not at the moment. Coca had on a tight outfit that hugged all of her curves. She wasn’t as pretty as she used to be. A person could tell that she stumbled across hard times, and survived.
Marcus continued looking at Coca with disgust in his eyes. He wanted to know why she was here of all evenings. He would have to inform Jay that this was his ex-lover, fiancée.
Savoy moved his crew into the party. They all scattered throughout the club taking in the scene.
Ray followed shortly thereafter walking in without a gift. Jay just looked past her. Jay turned to Marcus asking who invited her to the shower. Marcus said everyone from Savoy’s crew was invited, including her even though they didn’t think she was going to show. It didn’t appear that she arrived with Savoy if she did she must have paused outside for a little while before coming in thinking about if she should come in. Luckily for her Jay was with child, at her baby shower or she would have been on the floor already with a broken nose.
It all felt designed. The next person to arrive was Pinkey. Neither Jay nor Marcus had anything to say to her. She handed Lyric an envelope, which she accepted with hesitation. She looked at Jay, and Jay nodded slightly before bringing her attention back to the door. She was glad that her cousin, Walter decided to show up. He had a fine female on his arm. She looked familiar. Jay couldn’t picture where she knew her from. It could be someone she fucked many moons ago.
Jay asked Lyric to open Pinkey’s envelope she wanted to know what she wanted to say or give to her unborn baby. She wasn’t the interesting person to arrive at the shower. Jay was still stuck on this Coca bitch. She needed to talk to Lyric without Marcus around so they could get into their Sherlock Holmes.
The arrivals slowed down so Jay, Marcus. Lyric and their families moved to the VIP area. Jay stayed near her father smiling and taking in whatever he was sharing with her. Marcus was glad that she was happy. He was also glad that the night was moving forward without drama so far. No loudness, no drunks getting put out, or fighting in the crowd.
Jay finally was able to break away from everyone. She pulled Lyric into one of the quieter rooms. They talked about the surprise guest, and they both agreed that Savoy was up to something with his date. They never saw him with this Coca before. Jay wanted to know where she came from suddenly, and wondered how she is acquainted with Marcus. Lyric asked her why do you think Pinkey gave you and Marcus a card filled with money. Jay asked if she counted the money. Lyric answered know but said it appears to be a few hundred.
While Jay and Lyric discussed the guest, Coca moved to the front of the club. Her friend called to tell her that she was out front. She went to get her boys. She stood right outside the door. One of Marcus boys happened to be near the door. He watched some female walk two little boys up to the door and handed off to Savoy’s guest. He knew that kids weren’t allowed he quickly turned; and went looking for Marcus. He sensed something was up with this chick. He wanted to warn Marcus before the party blow up with entertainment. He couldn’t fin d Marcus that is because he was looking for Jay.
No one stopped her from bringing the boys into an adult atmosphere. Coca held her sons hands tights walking through the crowd. At first she didn’t see Marcus anywhere in the main room. She did see Savoy flirting with some chick in a white and gold dress. She didn’t bother walking in his direction this was about her and Marcus.
Marcus exited the men’s room. He bumped into his boy as he was about to enter the main room. The look on his boy’s face was a good one. He asked him what is up. His boy said. Follow me we may have a problem on our hands. He walked Marcus to another small room and explained to him what he has witnessed at the door with Savoy’s guest. Marcus was shocked. He inquired why she would do that. He was also confused. He wasn’t aware that Coca had kids. He didn’t inquire about her after she walked out of his life.
He hoped that she wasn’t about to pull something stupid out of her pocket. She doesn’t know Jay or Lyric. He wasn’t the same person that he was when they were together. He had no problem getting her hurt if she planned on ruining Jay’s evening.
Jay and Lyric finished talking. They hugged with a plan in place. As they walked out of the room they heard someone other than the dj getting it in over the microphone. It sounded like a female. She was calling out Marcus. She was demanding his presence front and center. Jay and Lyric headed towards the scene. The crowd had stopped dancing and stood there taking in the entire scene. The gossiping started, and people were pointing at her sons. She hugged them closer to her as she held the microphone in her right hand. Jay made it to the room as Marcus and his boy walked up with rage in their eyes.
Jay wanted answers. Marcus’ look told her not now. All four of them, plus three additional of Marcus’ boys walked to the front of the dance floor. Coca dropped the microphone. She wasn’t prepared for his reaction. He walked up to her with Jay at his side. He pointed towards Jay. He said in front of everyone this is my soon to be wife. He pulled out the ring he had in his pocket. He dropped to one knee, proposing to Jay. She wasn’t expecting this at all. She just stood there with tears in her eyes. Coca moved forward attempting to prevent Marcus from putting the ring on Jay’s finger. Savoy was now in the front witnessing the drama up close and personal. He didn’t see the kids at first. Someone next to time said, they better move those little boys from there before they get hurt. Savoy looked down and saw to handsomely dressed little boys with bewilderment on their faces.
Lyric was already on Jay’s side so the move Coca made was the wrong one. Lyric swing and knocked her to the floor. Someone yelled oh shit. This commotion caused chain events that everyone will be talking about for years. Marcus grabbed Jay’s hand pulling her down. Lyric stood over Coca basically daring her to get up. Savoy moved in closer. He was now standing over her. He told Lyric he had it from here. Coca yelled no. I still have something to say. Everyone paused for a minute thinking that this chick was losing her mind. She quickly blurted out that she had Marcus’ sons. Marcus expression changed once again. He released Jay attempting to get off of his knee instead he crawled towards Coca asking her to repeat what she had just said.
Marcus couldn’t control his anger. He slapped the shit out of her. This made Savoy grabbed his arm. He said; do not do this here too many witnesses. Unbeknownst to them, Det. Cobbs was in the rear taking in the entire scene as it played out. She couldn’t believe her luck. She knew she couldn’t call in a distress call because she shouldn’t be there in the first place. She asked one of the guests to call 9-1-1. They looked at her as if she was crazy. They declined not wanting to get involved in whatever was going on.
Savoy helped Marcus up, then Jay, and finally concentrated on Coca. He walked her and her boys out of the club. Jay was fuming. Marcus couldn’t answer her spray of questions fast enough. Jay’s father suddenly appeared out of nowhere. He began demanding answers as well. He knew his daughter this wasn’t going away easily.
