It Is A Small World After All
 
I look over to the other side of the stage and motion to Tracy that I’m about to take a break.  I need to find out who this girl is and why she is crying.
“Ladies and gentleman before I go any further into this story I need a bathroom break.  I know some of y’all need to stretch your legs and use the bathroom also.  I will be back shortly.”
As I leave I try to keep tabs on the young lady that was sitting up front.   I’m leaving the auditorium and I’m approached by an older woman in her mid-forties.  She wants to stop and talk.  I politely let her know that I really have to use the bathroom and I will be able to talk to her later.  After I leave her, I see the young girl exiting the building and I catch up to her. ...

The Burden
 
I grab my glass of water sitting on the table and take a sip, I knew this was going to be a trip reliving the most dreadful day of my life.   I can remember it like it was yesterday.  I went to the doctor for my regular check up.  I was going for the normal things but I also wanted him to check out the unusual spots that were showing up on my body.  At first I thought it was eczema because that is strong among people of color but I started to think it was more than that because they started to get red.  My doctor ran some preliminary tests because he thought it might be skin cancer.  He did some blood work and within a day or two I was right back in the doctor’s office.
“Janelle…please, have a seat.  I called you in because we have the results from your blood tests.” He said ...

The Real World
 
            I can do this. I can get in front of these young people and tell them my story.  It wasn’t but two seconds ago that one of these students just tried to hit on me.  He is cute, but he is way too young, plus if he knew my story I don’t think he would be so quick to holla at me.  My girl Tracy talked me into this.  I don’t know why I even agreed, but I guess this story has to be told because our youth are the ones that really need to be educated on this. 
            Tracy is my best friend.  We’ve known each other since high school. We went to the same college in Virginia and even pledged the same Sorority, Delta ...
